S.P.I. presents: Intimacy online and selfie politics – with Louise Trueheart
INTIMACY ONLINE AND SELFIE POLITICS ********** with Louise Trueheart
This workshop approaches intimacy – here understood as a tool for self-empowerment and societal healing – through the lens of everyday technological mediums. Who watches who, who chooses to be seen, what are the erotics of those dynamics, and how can those power structures be toyed with? Skype. Cam girls. Drone warfare. Instagram. Through performative and movement-based exercises pointed at cameras and at each other, this workshop will cover the sensuality of the laptop, the intimacy of distance, and fourth-wave feminism. By sitting between subversion of patriarchal power relations and a critique of the reproduction of normative bodies on online, we’ll embody contemporary, and perhaps fetishized, “feminism”. It’s sexual, it’s political, it’s the (re)production of the self(ie).
